To quote Seth Godin, “Optimism is the most important human trait, because it allows us to evolve our ideas, to improve our situation, and to hope for a better tomorrow.” If only you could have seen my reaction when I read this, you will have to believe me when I say, I had a grin from ear to ear and said out loud to myself, “YES!” This is what I have been wanting since before COVID and what I was working on in January of 2020.
Fast forward to a year later, January 2021, where I had decided that my word of the year was “Mastery” and between January and July 1, I was working so hard for my clients that I burned out. Notice how I said, “I was working so hard for my clients”? How was I supposed to master anything when I was not working just as hard for my own business? How was I going to work on my business when I was burned out? How was I supposed to feel optimistic about my business when I was doing tasks that were not in alignment with who I am and what I want my business to be?
We are now in August and I feel optimistic about the next 5 months because it will allow me to evolve my ideas, to improve my situation for next year. I have many personal goals set for next year and these next 5 months will help me prepare myself to attain those personal goals and still run a business.
Running a business by yourself is great when you’re in your start-up years and by the time you get to year 4 and 5, you will start to feel that you want more out of your business, but don’t want to work anymore than you already are and in fact, you want to work less. This is when you start to think about scaling your business.
Growing your business and scaling your business are two different things, but many business owners interchange them. Growing your business means that you have grown your revenue and usually that also means that you have a lot more clientele and are not able to manage everything yourself anymore. Scaling your business means you are setting things up to support that growth, which includes staff, processes, systems and overall planning of the vision. Efficient Business Solutions is currently scaling our business and believe me when I say, this is not easy. That’s why I rely on the resources of my team.
