3 Tips to Balance your Business and Life during the Summer

Recently, I wrote and posted a blog about 5 Tips for a Stress-Free Vacation.  With only a mere few weeks left of school, many of us are thinking about summer vacation.  If you are like me, you likely work from home and whether you have small children, grown teens or college/university students, having them at school from September until the end of June means that you are used to your home being quiet and free from others.

Now that June is here, many of us are asking ourselves, “What am I going to do?” in relation to being productive as well as keeping your family busy during the summer.  Here are 3 Tips to Balance your Business and Life during the Summer

  1. Implement Summer Hours.  Many corporate companies have adopted a summer hour policy where an employee works extra hours Monday to Thursday and takes Friday off during the summer.  Entrepreneurs tend to work many more hours than an average employee works, however the idea is still viable.  Starting your day earlier, especially with the early sunrise, helps get a lot of things completed before everyone else is awake.

  2. Setup and Become Mobile.  Between laptops, tablets and smartphones, you are able to get work completed while sitting in the park or out in your backyard.  It allows you to enjoy the outdoors and time with your family and still answer emails.

  3. Ask for Help.  It’s never too late to get a VA, however, an alternative is to employ your family.  Many of us have things that need to get done during the summer, both inside and outside of our homes.  If we tap into our family to help, then everything gets done, as well as helping prevent your family from saying “I’m bored.” Make a list of things to do, such as mowing the lawn, weeding the garden, watering the garden, household chores, plus, include things that can help you in your business such as filing, shredding old papers, typing business cards into a spreadsheet and so much more!

Living in Canada, our summer tends to feel shorter than our winter, so we want to enjoy the summer months outdoors with our family.  If we all take these next few weeks to incorporate these tips and plan how we can apply them to our lives, we will be able to get the full enjoyment out of these few, precious, warm months before we get back into our “regular” routine.
