3 Elements to Discover Your Superpowers

Authored by Melissa Haddad on Feb 01 2019

I recently came across an article that was written by Sarah Chang on The Muse website and it spoke about knowing what your Superpower is.  It goes on to say, “Figuring out your superpower means you know yourself well enough to have a focus, and that’s the same competitive advantage that makes you so great at what you do.” As I reflected on this sentence, I soon realized that this was GOLD!

Think about it for a moment, as an entrepreneur, you started your business for one reason or another, but what keeps you going?  What makes you a hero or “Superhero” in your client’s mind?  If you really think about it, if you are focusing on other things that are not YOUR Superpowers, then those other things are your “Kryptonite” and those will only drain your energy and take away your focus.

Here are 3 elements that will help you discover what those are.

  1. Take notice of when you are in your “Zone”.  When you are in your “Zone”, you will feel excitement and your natural instincts will kick in.  You will be energized and your ideas will flow.  When you are not in your “Zone” you will feel tension and doubt.  You will have low energy and you may even procrastinate.  Once you become aware of those tasks on either side, write down the tasks that drain you and consider outsourcing them.

  2. Are you Batman or Superman?  Batman doesn’t have actual superpowers, instead he relies on his instincts, intellect, skills and tools.  You are Batman if you have learned and honed your skills through your career and or business and know when to tap into your toolkit for assistance.  Superman has natural powers such as strength, speed, special vision and hearing.  You are Superman if you naturally use your strengths to present your vision to lead them where they need to be.  Both Batman and Superman are positive to have, some may even have both of them show up at different times.  Understanding who you are allows you to focus on your strengths and not your weaknesses.

  3. What’s your purpose?  This is a very deep question to ask and as an entrepreneur, you may be asked this more than once.  Understanding your purpose may take a while to get to the root of the answer, but when you do, you will always know when you are out of alignment versus when you are focused and on mission.  For this, you may need the assistance of a Business Coach or a Mentor, but regardless, this is a great exercise to do.

When I decided to start to write this blog, I kept thinking about what my superpower is and then I realized that just like many Superheroes, I have many superpowers (as I am sure you do too!).  I possess the ability to keep you organized in many various ways.  I can brainstorm ideas to solve your problems, plus I have the vision to see what you want as well as what you need down the road.

With your superpowers and my superpowers combined, we create a great dynamic duo!  And, with my team of professionals with their own unique superpowers, we’re unstoppable.  Contact me for a Discovery Call and learn how we can be part of the Superhero Toolkit for you and your clients.
